Big hello to everyone! Wishkamar here!!!! I tried to sign on here after a very long time and found out that I have either forgot my password and the e-mail address my user ID was linked to or my ID has been deactivated. In either case, I could not log in with my previous ID, so had to create this new one.
But, since there have been so many changes in my life in this duration, that having a brand spanking new user ID for this forum sounds about right.
So, what's new at my front? Well, I was very happily living in Canada when the last time I came here but life had something else in store for me and I had to move to New York City with husband. I have been for just over 3 months now. Husband is originally from NYC and has his entire clan here, so, unsurprisingly, he has adjusted very well. Unfortunately, move has not been so easy for me. I have not been able to find myself a job yet and sitting idle at home is driving me up the wall. I completed my education in Canada and have about 5 years of working experience but, somehow, I cannot manage to get even an interview call based on my resume. I even tried going for the basic data entry/clerical positions but no luck so far for those positions even.
I plan to go back to school in Fall 2017 but need to find myself a way to keep me busy until then. I never worked in retail industry and do not have any cash register or sales experience, so I don't even get called for those positions either. I am a green card holder, by the way. So, it's not about not having legal documents to work here.
To give you guys a bit more detail about my educational background, I completed high school in Canada and then completed 2 and half years of Bachelors in Public Health but had to drop out after that. Someone has told me that I am gonna need to have my high school diploma evaluated and only then I can start working. Can someone with any knowledge on this matter advise me if this is correct information? Do I also need to get my university credits evaluated? I have applied to CUNY and had my high school and university send my transcripts to CUNY, but I didn't read about degree or credit evaluation as a requirement.
I do have a lot more questions about SO many matters, but those will be topics for future blogs.
Take care and bye for now!!!!
